Hello Mesquite Nation!! My name is Michael Edgmon and I am honored to be the new varsity boys basketball head coach! I am extremely excited and proud to be part of this program and school in this new role. I am a part of this schools history as I was a student in the first graduating class of 2001 and was a member of the basketball team that raised the first banner of the school! I am looking forward to making more memories because being a Mesquite Wildcat is in my blood – I absolutely bleed blue!
After high school, I went on to college at Chandler/Gilbert community college and from there to Arizona State University where I furthered my studies in Biology. I sought after education in pharmaceuticals and was accepted to Roseman University College of Pharmacy program and in 2010, I earned my doctorate in pharmacy and currently work as a pharmacist for Walgreens. I appreciate being an integral part of healthcare and educating patients about their medications or any other health-related needs.
I have an 8-year-old son, his name is Cade and he is going to be in 3rd grade. Cade is my pride and joy and I absolutely love being able to coach him and his friends and watch them develop the love, passion, and excitement for the game of basketball. Cade loves coming to all of our practices and games and enjoys being my mini-assistant. Maybe one day he too can walk through the gym doors at Mesquite High School and play on the same court as I once did.
I started coaching basketball almost six years ago at Mesquite Junior high where I coached for two years before making the move to return home to Mesquite High School. I coached the JV team for two years and was the varsity assistant for all three years.
This opportunity is very surreal and a dream come true! To be able to have two jobs that I absolutely love is an honor! I love working with people – both on the medical side to assist in overall healthcare as well as teach young men the game of basketball to assist them in achieving their goals and aspirations is a dream come true! This year is going to be extra special for me as I will be coaching 3 of the players for 6 straight seasons and most of the others now for 4 straight seasons. We have set goals and standards from back when they were in junior high to get them prepared for this, their senior year season. I’m looking forward to coaching this team and building a successful Mesquite basketball program!
